Adriatic College has been selected to take part in the programme “Digitalna tehnologija i vještačka inteligencija za igru i učenje”, implemented by the Zavod za školstvo Crne Gore and UNICEF in partnership with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation. Primary teachers will attend a three-day training in Podgorica, after which Grade 4 pupils will work on their own projects using the micro:bit and basic concepts of artificial intelligence. The programme is aimed at developing teachers’ digital competences and twenty-first century skills in pupils.

About the programme

The programme “Digitalna tehnologija i vještačka inteligencija za igru i učenje: inoviranje i razvijanje vještina 21. vijeka za nastavnike i učenike” is a joint initiative of the Zavod za školstvo and UNICEF, implemented in cooperation with the Micro:bit Educational Foundation.

Its purpose is to develop teachers’ digital competences and to support the formation of twenty-first century skills in pupils through the use of:

  • micro:bit devices in lessons;
  • game-based and project-based learning activities;
  • basic concepts of artificial intelligence adapted to primary education.

The programme builds on the experience of the 2024 pilot project implemented in several primary schools in Montenegro. The pilot results showed that the systematic use of digital tools, teamwork and creative tasks increases pupils’ engagement and extends opportunities for creating cross-curricular links.

Adriatic College’s participation

In the 2025/2026 school year, Adriatic College is included among the schools proposed to take part in the next phase of the programme. The school has received an official letter from the Zavod za školstvo inviting it to form a team of three primary teachers who will directly implement the programme in Grade 4 classes.

The school’s participation includes:

  • forming a working group of three primary teachers;
  • their participation in a three-day training in Podgorica organised by the Zavod za školstvo and UNICEF;
  • integrating programme materials and projects into teaching and learning with Grade 4 pupils;
  • regular communication with programme coordinators and participation in joint meetings of school principals.

At the introductory meeting for school principals, representatives of the Zavod za školstvo and UNICEF will present a detailed implementation plan, the reporting format and examples of teaching scenarios.

After completing the training in Podgorica, Adriatic College teachers will start implementing the programme in their classes. It is envisaged that:

  • tasks will be integrated into existing school subjects (mathematics, science, language learning, integrated lessons);
  • Grade 4 pupils will work in pairs and small groups;
  • the micro:bit will become a tool for creating simple projects: interactive games, models, counters and solutions to practical problems;
  • basic ideas related to artificial intelligence will be explained in a way that is accessible to younger pupils (algorithms, working with data, rules for decision-making).

The school will keep records of the lessons and projects carried out and will collect examples of pupils’ work. These materials are planned to be used both for internal review and for sharing experience among participating schools through the Zavod za školstvo and UNICEF.

The role of UNICEF, Micro:bit and public institutions

The initiative is implemented at the intersection of international and national levels:

  • UNICEF is responsible for the conceptual framework of the programme, the focus on twenty-first century skills and the promotion of equal access for children to modern education.
  • The Micro:bit Educational Foundation provides methodological support for the use of the micro:bit in school and develops the international community of teachers working with this technology.
  • The Zavod za školstvo Crne Gore, acting on behalf of the education system and in coordination with the Ministry of Education, adapts the programme to the Montenegrin context, the national curriculum and the digital competence framework.

Adriatic College’s participation in this programme means that the school is part of a national initiative that connects the international experience of UNICEF and Micro:bit with the priorities of Montenegro’s education policy. For the school, this is an opportunity to systematically develop the digital learning environment in the early years of primary education and to rely on the support of public and international partners.
